At Fristads, sustainability is more than a goal – it's a core value.  Our goal is to decrease our CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 and we are proud to be the first company in the world to implement the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) standard for clothing.

Fristads is the first company in the world to measure the environmental impact of clothes. Fristads Green is a concept of workwear where the entire manufacturing chain is characterized by environmental awareness and innovation to minimize the footprint on the environment.

We launched the first Fristads Green collection in the autumn 2019. Our aim is to make the Green concept a part of every product segment in the next coming years. All Fristads Green products have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) with information about the product's total environmental impact. In September 2019 the craftsman collection was awarded with the international design prize Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Below you find the Fristads Green collections for craftsmen, industry and service and cold wind rain.

The EPD project took almost two years to complete and began with an assignment from the management team to develop a more environmentally friendly workwear collection. We contacted the RISE governmental research institute for their advice on the best way to take the lead and they suggested the development of an Environmental Product Declaration for clothing. EPDs have long been used in other product areas such as building materials, but Fristads is the first player to have adapted the standard for garments.

The process of adapting the standard meant that the entire production chain and life cycle of the garment were inspected – from the choice of materials, the quantity of materials, the dyeing process, the water and electricity consumption in factories, to the packaging and transport of the finished garment.
