IMPROVING WORKER SAFETY AND HEALTH
We recognise that our business has an impact on environmental and social aspects far beyond our own immediate operations and we work with long-term suppliers that share the same values.
Part of amfori BSCI
Since 2016, we are part of amfori BSCI, the leading supply chain management system that helps companies work with assessing and improving social and environmental standards in their supply chain. By joining forces with amfori BSCI we aim to guarantee ethical working conditions for all workers in our supply chain.
The amfori BSCI organisation follows the ILO core conventions and the UN Global Compact. The amfori BSCI Code of Conduct must be disseminated in the workplace to inform workers of their rights, and in addition to the Code there are rules for workers’ safety and health. What is more, the Code sets the standard for zero tolerance against child labour, bribery, bonded labour and shortcomings in occupational health and safety. Fristads’ own Code of Conduct follows the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct.
To ensure that we live up to these standards, factory inspections are regularly carried out by accredited third parties with trained auditors well versed in the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct. We support the factories before and after the inspections, but do not take part in the actual inspections. Deviations that occur during a factory inspection must be corrected and followed up by a new inspection.
How we ensure compliance in our supply chain
1. Training and commitments
All suppliers must fill out a self-assessment form (SSA), complete a questionnaire on the Worldfavor platform and commit to and sign Fristads’ Code of Conduct and Restricted Substances list.
2. Monitor and support
Our corporate and social responsibility team continuously monitors that our ethical standards are shared and implemented in the countries and communities where our operations have an impact.
3. Third-party factory audits
To ensure that we live up to the amfori standards, factory audits are regularly carried out by accredited third parties. We support the factories before and after the inspections, but do not take part in the actual inspections.
4. Remediation plans
Deviations that occur during a factory inspection must be corrected through a remediation plan and followed up through a new audit. The remediation plans aim to constantly improve working conditions and environmental standards at the factories.
International accord agreement
Fristads has signed the new International Accord for Health and Safety in the Garment and Textile Industry. Through the agreement trade unions and companies join efforts to ensure a safe work environment in the garment industry.
